449 & 451 Balestier Road
Ember Earther Builders is honoured to contribute to the rejuvenation of 449 & 451 Balestier Road, a project that carefully blends heritage conservation with modern urban development. This development involves the proposed additions and alterations to an existing 2-storey conserved shophouse, together with a new 6-storey rear extension comprising a shop at the 1st storey and 7 units of Serviced Apartment (SA2) from the 2nd to 6th storey.
This project highlights Ember Earther Builders’ capability in handling works that demand both technical precision and contextual sensitivity. Additions-and-alterations works to conserved buildings require more than straightforward construction execution; they call for careful planning, close coordination, and disciplined implementation to ensure that new interventions are integrated responsibly with the retained structure. In this case, the development required coordination across multiple regulatory and technical considerations, reinforcing the importance of experience and control throughout the project process.
From a design and construction standpoint, the project creates a meaningful dialogue between the historic identity of the conserved shophouse and the contemporary expression of the rear extension. The front elevation continues to contribute to the familiar Balestier Road character, while the rear block expresses a more modern language that supports the new programme. This balance between preservation and progress is what gives the development its distinct value.
For Ember Earther Builders, 449 & 451 Balestier Road represents more than a building project. It reflects our commitment to delivering works that respect architectural heritage, embrace technical challenges, and create spaces that are relevant for the future. It is a project that demonstrates our belief in building with care, purpose, and long-term vision.
